Welcome to Exploring Oz in Style! We do hope you enjoy our blog – reading about our adventures and viewing the images we present to you as we travel around this beautiful country of ours. We are planning some awesome trips including the big one – the lap around Australia – where we plan to spend 12 months to 2 years on the road.
We have a few aims for this blog – though we do find that this is ever evolving as we gather more experience.
We will also be travelling with 2 of our 4 dogs – 2 Jack Russells (Pépe and Bella). We have 2 larger dogs at home as well (a Rottie – Jamaica – and a Border Collie – Poppy) but it seems a tad cruel to bring them along when Poppy needs to run as much as possible and we can’t leave just 1 at home.
UPDATE: Sadly, we lost Jamaica in April this year – very suddenly and we miss her every day. As our other dogs are all close to 7yo, we take them as much as possible now though living in the NT that provides somewhat of a challenge due to all the national park areas up here.
We have joined the Troopcarriers of Australia page and apparently we are now known as Troopy Legends with their own UHF Callsign and Channel – Troopy Legend UHF 27. Our personal callsign is Holdfast 3-2 and we can usually be found on the usual channels.
So, I hope you enjoy our blog and if you’d like to subscribe, please feel free to do so.
See you around Oz – oh, and if you happen to recognise the Troopy and/or camper trailer from the images in this blog, please feel free to pop over and say hi to us. You may recognise us by the ‘Follow the Sapper’ sticker on the back of the trailer. We are always happy to have a chat with like minded people.

Hi, love your blog, and wanted to just let you know about this in case you would like a souvenir of the 2015 Big Red Bash. Didn’t want to splash it across your Facebook page, so hope you are OK with this message. Love your photos too!! Thanks for that lovely comment. You guys do a great job. We are moving to Darwin in January so a whole different POV for photography up there. Can’t wait. Cheers
Hi Damian and Vanessa, looking forward to following you on your travels. We’re hoping to do the big lap in a couple of years when the kids have finished school. In the meantime we have to be content with our camping weekends and occasional jaunts further afield. Cheers.
Hi Miriam – nice to have you along. My posts are sometimes jumbled up because as a photographer, I can’t just put up the images unedited but I hope you’ll indulge us. I hope you can get some use from the information we provide in our blog for your own travels 🙂 Vanessa
Thanks Vanessa, look forward to more of your photos and words, jumbled or otherwise 🙂
Vanessa … have just read your blog of 2015 Big Red Bash … an entertaining and may I say, an excellent “every-persons” article which captures the BRB spirit. I also noted that you are moving to Darwin in January for a posting. Talk about an opportunity for the deserving … moving to the Territory – the heartland of off-road exploration and photography. My 20+ years throughout the Kimberley were fantastic but I couldn’t spend much time in the Territory … so I will catch up with you on the Territory-track sometime 2016/2017. PLS keep shooting, keep blogging … so enjoyable !!
Cheers … NeilM
Thank you so much Neil. What a lovely comment you left. Yes, am certainly looking forward to living in Darwin and taking advantage of all the photographic opportunities that will surround me – not only in Darwin but in the Northern Territory and in some of the islands around the area. The Tiwi Islands and Thursday Island spring to mind. Cheers
